Meet The DJ: Utah DJ Branden Estrada Brings High-Energy House Party
DJ Branden Estrada brings his signature energy to MILK+ Salt Lake City this November, redefining LGBTQ+ nightlife in Utah.
From DIY Basement Parties to Salt Lake City’s Hottest Dance Floors
Before Branden Estrada became one of Salt Lake City’s most exciting DJs, he was a high-schooler mesmerized by the underground dance scene. Inspired by local legend DJ Marcus Wing’s electric house parties, Estrada didn’t initially dream of spinning tracks himself. He mostly wanted to recreate that magnetic energy where strangers became friends under flashing lights.
By 2013, his parents’ basement had transformed into an improvised nightclub. Armed with rented speakers, budget lighting, and sketchy Twitter invites, the teenage Estrada taught himself the craft using nothing but Spotify and YouTube. “I was dragging sliders and praying songs matched up,” he laughs. “Spoiler: they didn’t.”
Everything changed at a 2015 youth church dance when Estrada learned that the DJ had earned $750 for playing the Cupid Shuffle seven times. “I was shocked—and inspired,” he recalls. That moment ignited his passion. Within twelve months, he’d invested in professional equipment, mastered beat-matching, and booked his first college house party gig. The rest, as he puts it, “just kept working—like that one scene from Rick and Morty, if you know, you know.”

The Estrada Sound: Where Playful Energy Meets Modern House
Ask Estrada to describe his DJ style in three words, and he won’t hesitate: Energetic. Playful. Jester-like.
His sets pulse with personality, designed to forge genuine connections between strangers on the dance floor. His early influences included The Chainsmokers, San Holo, Drake, and Lil Jon. Then Estrada’s sound shifted to channel modern house heavyweights like Sonny Fodera, James Godfrey, Nathan Dawe, and D.O.D.
And his guaranteed crowd-pleaser? Miley Cyrus’s “See You Again”—a track that never fails to ignite the room.
Reading Rooms, Not Setlists: The Art of Live DJing
After years behind the booth, Branden Estrada has evolved past pre-planned setlists entirely. Every performance is a living, breathing conversation with the crowd.
“I can tell pretty early what kind of crowd it is,” he explains. “If the energy’s not right, I’ll switch everything up on the fly.”

That instinct—the ability to read a room within seconds—is what separates a good DJ from a great one. Estrada’s sets aren’t just playlists; they’re emotional landscapes, built in real time from the pulse of the dance floor.
His pre-show ritual is refreshingly simple and unpretentious: “I take a bath and pop a Zyn,” he laughs.
No elaborate superstition, no overthinking—just calm, focus, and trust in his craft. His gear setup mirrors that minimalist philosophy: a Pioneer turntable and a Pioneer mixer. Combine that with an intuitive sense of what every dance floor needs before it even knows it and you have a classic Estrada show.
Estrada’s approach to nightlife is rooted in connection, not ego. When asked what the scene has taught him most, his answer lands like a mission statement for every true DJ: “The night isn’t about you—it’s about us.”
That ethos radiates through every beat he drops. Whether he’s behind the decks at a packed club or guiding an intimate crowd through late-night euphoria, Estrada’s focus remains the same—create moments that feel shared, electric, and alive. It’s not performance; it’s communion.
Why MILK+ Is the Perfect Stage for Estrada’s Vision
Estrada’s first experience at MILK+ left him genuinely moved. “I’ve never seen a group of people just vibing and enjoying themselves that much,” he remembers. “There’s so much space to dance, but everyone still felt integrated—connected.”

Having performed at private queer events throughout Salt Lake City, Estrada brings deep appreciation for LGBTQ+ nightlife culture. To him, these spaces represent “openness, vulnerability, and contagious excitability.”
When he steps behind the booth this Saturday, his goal is singular: creating a sonic experience so immersive that dancers forget everything except the present moment.
